Paw Prints in Salt Dough

We buried Allie yesterday. But before we did, I just had to get a little something to remember her by.

Aren't these little feet just adorable? We miss her so much.

Since I am not someone who goes wasting stuff, I did pull out a cookie cutter and made some hearts from the left over dough.

Here is the dough recipe:

1 cup salt
1 cup flour
1/2 cup water

I halved this recipe and added three drops of red food coloring. I mixed it in my stand mixer. It was too dry, I ended up having to add more water. I mixed until the ingredients stuck together into little peas. When it began to do this, I grabbed a handful (after turning the mixer off!) and squished it into a ball. As long as it creates a neat ball, not too sticky or wet, then take it out and knead it until its smooth. Roll it out and cut desired shapes. I used a cereal bowl to "cut" the round for the footprints and my heart cookie cutter for the rest. I used a chopstick to make the holes in the hearts. At this point it is supposed to be baked at 100 degrees for 2 hours. My oven doesn't go that low so I heated it up to 170 then turned it off and let the ornaments cook in the warm oven ( I did the preheat 3 or 4 times).
I will definitely do this again very soon and make lots of ornaments. Its so easy!
